Five Benefits of Being a Mompreneur

By Juliann Allen | Career | Comments are Closed | 26 July, 2016 | 0

Since the rise of the modern-day working mom, the war between those who go to work and those who stay at home has raged on.

But a third type has arisen from the carnage of the battlefield: the mompreneur. She hasn’t come to fight—unless it’s against an obstacle keeping her from succeeding to help those around her. She’s here to empower and to show that the only battles worthwhile are the ones that help you reach your goals and do what’s best for your life.

Mompreneurs blend both motherhood and careers. They’re raising children and running their own businesses simultaneously, a feat understandable for anyone who has had to take a conference call and clean up tomato sauce from the high chair at the same time.

Yet with all of its daily challenges, being a mompreneur is worth it. Got kids but thinking of starting your own business? Read up on five benefits of being a mompreneur.

You’re on nobody’s time but your own.

Feel like starting at 10 a.m. every day? In your pajamas? If that works for you, do it. Being a mompreneur means working when you want. You get to choose your own schedule, and without a boss hovering over you, you get more freedom.

Your business is what you make it.

Taking the mompreneur route helps you get out of the 9-to-5 salary trap, where you earn the same income each month no matter how hard you work. When you run your own business, you can choose whether you want to try to make it skyrocket or keep it small. If you want to earn more money, go for it.

You get more time with your kids.

But wait, isn’t running your own business time consuming? Sure. However, more time with kids means being able to leave in the middle of the day for a school play or taking the time to eat a meal together. Because you have a lot of control over your own schedule, you can afford to be more present.

Sometimes you may have to work instead of spending time with family. However, when special moments arise, you can enjoy them without the worry of making it back to your desk before your supervisor calls to see where you are.

You can keep costs low.

Throwing out the office job comes with money-saving benefits. You can cut down on gas used for morning and evening commutes, dry cleaning for work suits and the daily $8 you spend on a salad from the office café. Not to mention if you’re keeping your little ones at home with you, you don’t have to worry with daycare tuition.

Some mompreneurs may need to rent an office; however, if you’re working from home, your monthly house note kills two birds with one stone.

You get a rewarding and empowering career.

When you launch and operate your own business, you’re driven by purpose. Instead of scrambling to please your boss at the 9 a.m. meeting, you’re working to meet your goals and positively influence others. Realizing your progress can prompt you to reach for greater success, making your job both meaningful and achievement oriented.
