Franchise Features: Angela McMullin

By Morgan Hudson | Franchise Features | Comments are Closed | 5 June, 2016 | 1

Angela McMullin’s first introduction to Teams of Tomorrow was a bit out of the norm. Like many, she was introduced to TOT by listening to Missy Washam speak about the program.

What makes her story unique?

She was hearing Missy talk about TOT during a meal after a family member’s funeral. Angela’s husband and Missy are cousins and it was at that lunch that got Angela thinking.

Like many TOT franchisees, Angela’s background was in public education. She was in her 25th year of teaching in a public school and knew she could retire at any time.

“I thought about it for days and finally contacted Missy with some questions,” she said. “After much thought and prayer, I decided to start the process of becoming a TOT director.”

In 2008 Angela officially became a TOT director. Her territory is in a rural area of south Mississippi. She said many of her schools have a small enrollment. And she travels roughly 300 miles per week to get to all of her classes.

Teaching and being around children is something Angela has always enjoyed and TOT allows her to still have that teacher-student relationship. She has many stories about being Ms. TOT to her students, but one moment in a Walmart still sticks with her.

“I was walking down the aisle with my TOT shirt on and heard a woman saying ‘Ms. TOT, Ms. TOT!” The lady came to me and asked if I was Ms. TOT at Harvey’s Academy. I told her yes, and she said a friend of hers said she knew me, Angela McMullin, and the woman told her that my name was Tot, not McMullin. I tried not to laugh when I explained to her that my name was Angela McMullin, but the kids call me Ms. TOT.”

In her tenth year with TOT, Angela has eight preschool classes and two upper TOT classes. Teaching all of the classes plus travel keeps her very busy in retirement, but it has also allowed her freedom for other things.

“TOT has been good for my family,” she said. “I do not have a great number of students, so it’s not all about the money. But I have more freedom to keep my grandchildren and play golf. I still tutor after school and help my husband with his lesson plans.

“If you love children and having fun, this is the place to be.”
