New Years Resolutions for Toddlers

By Morgan Hudson | Family | Comments are Closed | 9 January, 2018 | 0

For many, the new year means turning over a new leaf…or at least part of a leaf. New Year’s resolutions are just as synonymous as fireworks when it comes to January rolling back around. While resolutions may seem like an adult activity, even toddlers can join in on how to make 2018 better than the last! If you’re setting new year’s resolutions for yourself, make it a family affair and get your children involved!

The term resolution may seem a little heavy for toddlers, but the the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends resolutions that are regular expectations…or simply starting new, healthy habits. Unsure where to begin…we’ve got six resolutions for toddlers this year!

1. Listening skills.

Whether it’s doing a better job of listening to Mom or Dad or listening to a teacher, learn to do a better job listening.

2. Being kind to pets.

Sometimes toddlers have a hard time showing their affection in ways pets understand. Make 2018 the year to learn how to be gentle and pet animals in a way that shows they’re loved, as well as, not teasing pets and keeping my fingers away from their mouths so that bites don’t happen.

3. Picking up toys.

After playing with toys, have your children clean up what they’ve played with and put things back where they belong. (And while you’re at it, this could be a good time to get a head start on that spring cleaning and have your child donate toys they no longer play with!)

4. Learn something new.

Whether it’s learning new words, learning a new TOT skill – starting off the new year by learning something brand new is a great way to set the tone for the year!

5. Creating good hygiene habits.

Starting hygiene habits early is so important, and what better time than the new year? Help children start brushing their teeth twice a day and washing their hands after going to the bathroom. Early habits that will last a lifetime!

6. Have more fun!

It’s super simple, but it’s a resolution for the whole family! The stress of daily life can easily overtake adults who are having to juggle all the different areas of their families lives. Make sure everyone sets aside some time to have a little fun!

We’re planning on making 2018 the best year yet at TOT and we hope the new year starts off right for our TOT families too!
