How to Stay Motivated As Summer Approaches

By Morgan Hudson | Career | Comments are Closed | 1 May, 2017 | 0

Spring break has passed. For classroom teachers, testing is over. For TOT teachers, Shine Time is just around the corner (next couple of weeks!). The days are longer and warmer, and now you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. School is almost over, but you’re feeling drained. We get it! It’s hard to stay motivated every day throughout the entire year, but we have four tips that will help you as you continue the countdown to summer.

#1 Stay Positive!

First off, stay positive! This may seem like a pretty obvious one, but sometimes we need to be reminded, especially after a particularly long day. It’s easy to start sinking a little, the kids seem to be getting a little wilder, but don’t stay down. This is the final stretch, stay optimistic!

#2 Be Intentional!

Something that can oftentimes happen is coasting through those last few weeks. But, we challenge you to be more intentional. Set daily or weekly goals and be more intentional to get those goals achieved! Make the most of those final weeks… you will be happy and so will your students.

#3 Get Creative!

A great way to stay intentional is to flex your creative muscles. If there’s a project or idea you’ve been wanting to try out all year but never got the time to, give it a whirl now! Put aside the rigorous schedule and switch it up. Not only will you be excited to try something you’ve been interested in, but the kids will enjoy the challenge also!

#4 Celebrate!

And finally, another great thing to do at the end of year? Celebrate! Students aren’t the only ones to celebrate with. Celebrate with your colleagues! Each of you deserves a pat on the back, and spending time together outside of work can help reinvigorate you for the last few weeks of school.

We know it can be difficult to stay motivated during the last few weeks, but a motivated teacher is a good teacher. If you are motivated, your students will notice and it can make for an easier end of the semester.
